Every kilogram of wheat, makhana and jaggery in a Royal Desi pack is bought at the farm gate. Here is exactly what that means, and what it costs us.

A 100 g pack of makhana sells for around ₹200. In the conventional chain — harvester to village aggregator to mandi trader to processor to brand — the family who dived into the pond to collect those seeds typically sees ₹12 to ₹18 of it.
We are a small buyer and we are not going to pretend we have fixed that. What we have done is remove every intermediate step we can reach: we contract before the season, we collect ourselves, we pay within three days, and we pay a premium for it.
It makes our input costs roughly 18% higher than buying on the open market. In exchange we get consistent grade, full traceability, and growers who answer the phone in March when we need to plan.

We buy at the farm gate from two collectives and eleven individual growers. No aggregator, no trader, no commission agent.
Payment lands within 72 hours of collection instead of on 90-day credit, and we pre-finance seed for growers who ask.
Harvest reaches our kitchen in days rather than months in a warehouse — which is most of why the makhana tastes different.
We buy the full grade range, not just the premium sizes, so a season’s work is not wasted on cosmetic rejection.
